HVAC Industry Credentials Overview

Minimize

The credentials developed by the credentialing bodies listed on this page are considered by many to be "prestigious" and "hard to earn." They are "respected," even by the certifying bodies who directly compete with one another. The descriptors "prestigious," "hard to earn," and "respected" are not to be confused with objective criteria for assessing credentials such as the ISO/IEC 17024 Personnel Certification Standard.

However, the terms are useful to technicians, contractors, utilities, and customers because it is widely presumed that individuals and companies who earn these credentials are more likely to delivery high quality products and services into the marketplace, including those products' energy efficiency aspects. These credentials do not guarantee better work, but those who have earned them have demonstrated/documented knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs). Those who have not earned them have not.

Most of the certifying/credentialing bodies below offer multiple credentials and require the passage of an exam for each specialty. All the specialty exams/certifications/credentials are not listed below, but the links below will provide you with a great start.
